Bloomin' Honey

It was a really windy night and most of us were kept awake at some point or another. The whirly Benaut outside was spinning so wildly it was scary. It didn't fall off though and didn't bend. However Huffle did take the top off this evening as the wind was wild again. So wild it knocked over our heavy urn planter.

We made the decision to go into Toronto this morning as the weather forecast for today and tomorrow was very similar (freezing cold, biting wind and maybe snow). During breakfast Huffle challenged us to get out of the house by 10:30am (bearing mind it was about 10am when he mentioned it). We made it though and drove down to the train station to catch the 10:58am train. For the family return it only costs $30 which is exceptional considering it normally costs $20 for parking. It's a nice comfortable quick journey and gave us a chance to warm up before going back out into the cold briefly again to get to the Exhibition Centre for Canada Blooms. This is a Garden and Home show and we were given three tickets from Jeff to get in. We listened to the end of MrsM's talk while sitting eating a Bakewell tart made by a baker originally from Swindon and Bristol with Welsh parents. This man liked to talk and as soon as he realised we were English, he talked to us about football and told us all about his involvement in the North American Darts League and the fact he ran the whole thing. He knew Eric Bristow and some others I had never heard of. He talked and talked and talked but his bakewells were delicious. We bumped into Jeff and listened to most of his talk later too. It was very interesting but we were very hungry and had to leave.

Elvis is alive and selling house plants

The boys all had a go on a Virtual Reality game which was a roller coaster. It was very funny watching them nealy falling over and trying to balance their weight even though they weren't really moving. We had many samples of honey and tried some Twinings Tea plus brought some samples home. We also got to taste Shortbread and brought Egg Custards home.

Huffle found us a place to eat on Trip Adviser which just happened to be right next door to Grandma's favourite place in theatre district. We walked the PATH which is an underground system leading to most parts of the city. Weird to see lots of business people in normal attire, no huge coats etc because they can get from the train to the PATH and into most major buildings without even going outside. There are lots of shops and cafes, banks and medical and beauty places. t's a good idea for this country but I don't like it as it is really warm and airless (though preferable to 50km wind and -17*). We did well and came out not too far from the restaurant. Dinner was lovely. Smallest had a Mac n Cheese, Small had a wood fired pizza, Huffle had a funky little calzone and I had a Veggie Goats Cheese Panini. Very very good food. We were really hungry.

Back down into the PATH and briefly outside to get to the station. Once the sun went down it got much colder. The train was very full on the way back because we were on it at rush hour. We sat in the 'quiet zone' which was unbelievably incredibly quiet. It was a direct train back, no stopping.

We were looking for dessert but the only place we knew had closed before we got there so we came home and made Maple Syrup Sponge and Custard and watched an episode of The Jump.
